T.C. Roberson baseball players swapped dirt for turf to receive a sparkling reminder of a remarkable achievement.
During halftime of Friday night’s Roberson-Reynolds football game, head baseball coach Eric Filipek invited players on the field to join Principal Nathan Allison and BCS Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson for the presentation of state championship rings. The team made history last May by earning its third consecutive 4A state baseball title. That means some players received their third championship ring.
“Most people see what happens when our players step on the field, but they may not know about their volunteering with the [Asheville Tourists Baseball Club] Ted E. Tourist league, or their work with students in the Progressive Education Program,” Coach Filipek shared. “This ring will always remind them of the whole journey with this team. It symbolizes the brotherhood and all they’ve done and accomplished, and how they’ve grown together. That means everything.”
Earlier in the evening, the team, joined by parents and alumni, celebrated the official grand opening of the Rams’ new batting facility. The exterior is adorned with photos from all of the school’s state baseball championships.
