Mr. Hough watches as two Roberson students and a PEP student dance in a circle

It was a scene straight out of a Hollywood premiere - with a red carpet, photographers, even cheers and applause for the stars of the evening, the high school students of the Buncombe County Schools Progressive Education Program (PEP). No one was settling in for a movie, though. The group was here to show off their best dance moves for the 2025 PEP Prom, held Friday night at the east campus of Biltmore Church.

Roberson High School, entered the church to find it had been transformed into “An Enchanted Forest,” the prom’s theme. The decorations made a nice spot for photos, but the students and their escorts were most excited to get to the magic on the dance floor.

Two Roberson baseball players dance with a PEP student“This night is so much fun for everyone,” said J.T. Smith, a senior on Roberson’s baseball team. “Whenever we get to be together with our PEP friends, whether we’re playing baseball or we’re here at prom, it is a privilege. They always bring so much joy wherever we are and whatever we’re doing.”

Special thanks to the team at Biltmore Church for hosting this year’s PEP Prom, and to all the the PEP staff members, parents, and students who created a memorable evening for all.
