Loomis, Salome - Kindergarten

My name is Mrs. Maria Salomé Loomis and I am originally from Ecuador. I grew up in a small town called Cuenca in Ecuador, where I completed my undergraduate degree. I graduated as a Regular and Special Education Teacher at the University of Cuenca- Ecuador eight years ago. I have worked as elementary education teacher for several years in Ecuador and also worked as a special education teacher. I have my master’s degree of Teaching Spanish as a Second Language “La enseñanza del español como segundo idioma” at the University of Barcelona-España.

It is my pleasure to teach Kindergarten for my fifth year in the Spanish Immersion program at Glen Arden Elementary School.  I feel very fortunate to be working as your daughter/son’s kindergarten teacher for this up-coming school year at Glen Arden Elementary School.

My plan is to work as hard as possible to give your daughter/son the appropriate tools they need to be successful problem solvers, independent and global thinkers and socially active as they learn Spanish as their second language and become multicultural.

This year I feel fortunate to be able to work with a beautiful woman whom I would like to introduce to you all, our Teacher Assistant Mrs. Luz Stella Cala-Holstein.  She was born in Colombia and moved to the United States 10 years ago. This is her 4th year working in GAES. She loves to work with children because she enjoys seeing each day how they increase their knowledge.  She really thanks you all for giving her the opportunity to participate in the education of your children.

When you walk in our classroom you will notice four corners; each corner represents a country. As our school becomes a Global School, we will be working on our country corners: United States of America corner (Kindergarten Global theme and where most of our students are from), Ecuador corner and Chile corner (where our Teacher is from) and Colombia corner (where our Teacher Assistant is from). We will be learning through this school year about each of them.

Also, as educators and students learn and live the 7 Habits at school, they naturally will begin to apply them at home. You all are probably asking yourselves: What are the 7 Habits? And the answer is: The 7 habits = The Leader in Me, which is a process of school and personal effectiveness that is based on timeless universal principals of leadership. We will be teaching it along this school year of how to discovery the Leader IN ME.

If you would like to contact me for any reason, please do not hesitate to send me an email anytime at maria.loomis@bcsemail.org I will be checking my email several times during the school day and I will answer them as soon as possible.

If it’s is not possible to contact me by email, you may call the school at any time during school hours at 828-654-1800. Please be aware that I am not able to speak during instructional hours, but do not hesitate to leave me a message if you call is during these hours.

Abrazos,

Sra. Loomis
