Meet the Principal
Kristina Specht

Welcome to my webpage. I hope you continue to explore the Glen Arden website to check out all the opportunities Glen Arden has to offer our students.  As you explore you will recognize that Glen Arden is steeped with Ram Pride, a tradition of excellence, and  a consistent expectation that all students can and will learn.

If you have read any articles about education lately you have seen the latest catch phrases – STEM and/or STEAM academies are popping up everywhere.  These acronyms stand for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.  At Glen Arden we have taken our own twist to the STEAM movement.

In addition to Science the

S stands for Spanish.  We are proud to be the first school in Buncombe County to have a Spanish Immersion class in all five grade levels.  Our students are on grade in both English and Spanish; reading, writing, and speaking fluently in both.

T stands for Technology, we continue to increase the amount of technology available to students as we move towards the 1:1 initiative.  Students will be expected to complete technology projects that involve Excel, Word, imovie, green screen, and more.

E stands for Environment here at Glen Arden.  We are fortunate to be located on 20 acres of rolling hills and soccer fields.  We are considered a “Green” school, recycling and caring for the Earth are concepts that are taught through out the school on a daily basis.

We are also in the process of creating a MakerSpace area in the Media Center to support the Engineering aspect of STEAM.  This will give students a hands-on experience in building and creating.

A stands the Arts

You cannot walk into Glen Arden without seeing for yourself that we believe the value of the Arts.  The walls and ceiling are covered with student created artwork.  Our music department has grown to a 60-student chorus, Ukulele and Boomwhacker Assemblies as well as our keyboarding classroom.  We believe that the Arts inspire students and inspired students are lifelong learners.

M is for Math. Math is taught everyday in various ways  Glen Arden has traditionally score higher than the State and County averages on our end of grade Math tests.

Our staff of highly qualified teachers are committed to teaching mastery of skills and increasing achievement for all students. It is our desire to make a difference in each child's life. Our goal is to help our students become productive, independent citizens while preparing them for the 21st century. It is with Ram Pride that we as a community are united in doing what is best for our students at Glen Arden Elementary. As always, your commitment to our school is valued. I welcome you to partner with us in this endeavor.
