Meet the Teacher

Beth Lindsey

School Counselor

My road to becoming a school counselor was not the most typical route. I began my undergraduate studies in Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati. After realizing I might actually need to be somewhat artistic to be successful in design, I changed my major to Business Administration and completed my Bachelors degree with a Marketing major. I enjoyed my first career as a sales representative, primarily with Weyerhaeuser Company. When my children (Laura and Ryan) entered elementary school (yes, at Glen Arden), I felt a strong calling to do something that would impact the lives of children. While I was successful and enjoyed my work in sales, I felt something was missing. Thomas Merton's quote seemed to sum up my feelings at the time: “People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.” With the encouragement and support of my husband, Jim, I left my career in sales, and applied to Western Carolina University to obtain my masters in School Counseling.

I'm so excited to be serving as School Counselor for Glen Arden Elementary. I am a Licenced Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and National Board for Professional Teaching Standard (NBPTS) Certified for School Counseling. Prior to joining the faculty of Glen Arden, I worked at Cane Creek Middle School, Rugby Middle School and Valley Springs Middle School. One of the reasons I decided to make the move to elementary was my hope that my experience would allow me to provide early interventions and that I could assist my students to avoid some of the pit falls lurking in those early adolescent years. My passion is to share the power of kindness with my students and to help them to realize success.
