  • Author of Up This Hill and Down: Thoughts on Life from the Southern Appalachians (Bright Mountain Books, 2001).
  • Articles and stories published in various magazines and books.
  • Speaker for clubs and organizations on literacy, writing, creativity, and Southern Mountain heritage.
  • Previous jobs have included: Children's Librarian with the Asheville/Buncombe Library System; Writer for the University of Virginia Office of Development; and English as a Second Language Teacher at a medical university in Sichuan, China, Volvo in Asheville, NC, and A-B Tech Community College in Asheville.

  • Traveling-- China, Malta, England, Southeast Asia, Australia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and hoping to make it to many more exciting places!
  • Care of the environment: Founding member of POWER (Protecting Our Water and Environmental Resources) http://poweractiongroup.org/ We are working toward a full-scale cleanup of the CTS of Asheville Superfund site.
