News & Notes

Oct. 27

Dear Parents,

Here you have some special reminders for our third graders:

1. Stuffed animals and little toys: The kids are not allowed to bring toys or other objects that may distract their attention and that of their peers'.

2. Wednesday Folder: The Wednesday folder includes most of the practice work we do with the kids in class. It's very important to go through the work with the kids to praise what they are doing right and to encourage them to do their best in weak areas such as reading and following each part of the instructions, paying attention to specific details, capitalization and ending punctuation.

In the Spanish dictations, you may see there is a list of misspelled words to be mechanized by repeating them 5 times. Students can do this at home as practice.

Please sign and send the folder back to school.

3. Birthday Celebrations: they are very important for the kids. However, according to the school policies and third grade handbook, the parents can't send food items "due to the increase in students with food allergies". Parents are allowed to send in "small items for the class, like a bookmark, pencil, or sticker to honor the child's birthday". They love it!

4. Scholastic orders: please use this code to set your order via web and send a note saying that you have ordered: NWXBD

Special Dates:

October 30: Sock Hop in the gym (1:00 to 1:30) and Fall Party in the classroom (1:30 to 2:15).

Our class coordinator: Amy Wamsley is working on it.

Thank you very much!!

REMEMBER: NO Halloween costumes, only appropriate Sock Hop attire!

Save the date:

November 17: Glen Arden Day at Iannucci's

Academics:

Math: We are working on unit 4 "Perimeter, Angles and Area". Remember the kids can use blank pages of unit 3 for additional practice at home.

Spanish: Reading Comprehension from Calle de la Lectura and special passages to elicit special vocabulary, answer open questions, identify sequence of events and main story elements. In addition, dictation, types of sentences, and punctuation.

Language Arts: We started our reading groups with the Ready NC book in order to enhance reading comprehension strategies and especially written responses with specific details. We have also started guided reading based on mClass results.

Grammar: subjects/predicates, run-on sentences and fragments. We are also working on word categories: nouns, pronouns, adjectives.

Social Studies: Colombia's Portfolio, maps and communities!

Science: we will work on the Earth and the Universe and The Human Body: muscular and skeletal systems.

Thanks for all your help and support at home,

Sra. Rodriguez
