PTO Mission, Goals, Contact Info:

PTO Purpose

The Glen Arden PTO (GAPTO) is organized for the purpose of supporting the education of children at Glen Arden Elementary School and by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers and having fun while doing it!

PTO Goals

The goals of GAES PTO are to hold events that complement the school’s curriculum, foster a sense of community at the school and help provide items identified by the staff that allows them to teach the children better.  Look for our free family fun events this year!

Last year, the PTO raised $50,000 to put back into the school from various fundraisers.  We were able to purchase a laptop computer to go with the new Smartboards in each room, provide classroom support for supplies (there is no other funding source for this as well as funding for a portionof the reading specialist and much, much more.  This year, we would like the $45,000 budget to fund:  Technology (iPads for classrooms), Classroom Support including Specials (PE, Art, Music, Guidance, etc.), and School Support (Weekly Readers, Schol Enrichment, PBIS, etc.)

The PTO is an organization, organized exclusively for the charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or corresponding section of any future federal tax code (hereinafter “Internal Revenue Code”).

6.      Volunteering

“When parents are involved in their children’s education at home, they do better in school.  And when parents are involved in school, children go farther in school and the schools they go to are better.”  A New Generation of Evidence:  The Family Is Critical to Student Achievement (Anne Henderson & Nancy Berla)

Glen Arden Elementary is a special and fun place to learn and grow because of its loving people and our community.  We are grateful for our amazing, dedicated teachers, awesome administration/staff, thoughtful students, involved parents, and generous community sponsors.

GOAL:  to have every family volunteer 4-6 hours a year.  We want to make volunteering FUN and engage parents to get involved in the school whether it is in the classroom, an event, a one time project, or an activity yo can do from home.

You may find the Volunteer Form under the Volunteer Form tab or you can pick one up at the front office.  In order to be eligible to volunteer in the school, you must also complete the Buncombe County School Volunteer Form (Click here!).   There are opportunities available for volunteering in the classroom.  There are opportunities available for volunteering the the classroom.  See your child’s teacher about these opportunities.  Please complete to express how you would like to volunteer this year and return to your child's teacher or the front office.  For further information on volunteering, contact PTO Volunteer Chairs Julie Wimbish, Jamie Greene, and Christi Tucker or e-mail glenardenpto@gmail.com.
