Meet the Teacher
Welcome to my Classroom
Diane Gayer

Hi!Welcome to room 505 at Glen Arden Elementary School. My name is Diane Gayer and I am one of the Intensive Intervention Teachers here at this warm and welcoming school. I am excited about my opportunity to teach this school year in the Buncombe County School district. I have enjoyed a wonderful 27 year education career covering positions in a variety of settings including preschool, elementary school, High School, Head Start and Early Intervention. I have an undergraduate degree in Special Education from University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Old Dominion University of Virginia. My teaching style has evolved over the years but I do believe in teaching the whole child by addressing cognitive, social, educational, emotional, sensory, and physical needs. When these areas are balanced, and then integrated, a child is at their highest level for learning. I believe that all children should have the opportunity to be at their highest educational potential.

I live in Haywood County with my husband and our two sons along with our 6 chickens, 4 cats, and 2 dogs. My hobbies include veggie and herb gardening; cooking; reading and hiking.  I love spending time with my family and I love volunteering in the community and at my church. When school is not in session I direct a summer camp for children with special needs at Lake Junaluska.
