Weather Watch

The safety of all children is our first concern when deciding if schools must be closed or their opening delayed because of weather conditions.  Here are some important things to remember.

1. The decision to close school or to delay the opening will be made by the Central Office no later than 6:00 AM.  If possible, the decision will be made the evening before.
2. Tune in to area radio (WWNC 570 AM) and television (WLOS 13) stations for the announcement or contact a neighbor who can listen for you.  PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL, CENTRAL OFFICE OR THE NEWS MEDIA.  You can also check the website at
3. School closings are done by districts.  If the Roberson District is closed, this will include the Reynolds District also, since the children from both districts attend Cane Creek Middle School.
4. If NO announcement is made, school will operate on a regular schedule.

All parents are to advise their child’s teacher early in the year as to what the "snow and early dismissal plan" is for their child.  It is the parent's responsibility to keep this information up to date.  We will not be able to call individual parents in the case of an early dismissal.  On those days when snow is forecasted or when snow begins to fall, make sure to listen to the radio (WWNC 570 AM) or television (WLOS 13) for possible announcements.  The Alert Now group calling system is used by the school and Central office.  It is extremely important that all home, business and cell number changes are reported to the office.

Buncombe County Schools is in the process of reviewing its website to ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
